How To Pick The Perfect Bathroom Tiles
February 16, 2020
The bathroom can be a neglected space when it comes to design. The most elaborate style choices are usually made in the kitchen or the living room as the most time is spent there.
However, this humble shouldn’t be forgotten and one way to take it up a level with style is adding tiles. There are hundreds of options to choose from – floor, wall, or feature as well as colors and material.
So how do you make a decision? You can either pop into Euro Tiles and Stone for some ideas and options for your budget and style or you can read this handy list we put together.
It Takes Time
Chances are that you’re not going to change your tiles once they’ve been installed for a long time – if ever – so you mustn’t make a rushed decision. Don’t try and make it all online if possible.
If you have the option to be sent some samples or visit a store, then you definitely should. Just being able to touch a tile and see how it reflects the light might change your mind – it’s better to find this out before you bought them all!
Do Some Pre-Planning
Little details like having already decided your color-scheme will make the decision-making process. Don’t be afraid to bring pictures of your dream bathroom and pick the tile that is the closest match.
Not sure where to start? The most common choice for a bathroom is brown or grey tones so they are a good jumping-off point for inspiration.
Less is usually more when it comes to decorating a space, but don’t be afraid to mix and match colors. As long as you like it – don’t worry what the blogs say.
Bring Floor Plans
Even though you might have taken the time to measure the space, presenting someone with a floor plan can make all the difference. Our consultants at Euro Tiles and Stone can use them to calculate exactly how many tiles you will need.
The last thing you need is the wrong measurement throwing off the whole decorations. So be safe and bring the plans!
Make Your Bathroom Look Bigger
Not only are they great for decoration, but you can also use bathroom tiles to create the effect you want. Is your bathroom smaller than you would like?
Try using bigger tiles on the wall instead of lots of small ones. The large tiles will give the illusion that your bathroom is bigger than it is.
Another tip is to use a light-colored grout. Light grey is the ideal color as it shows less dirt than white and if you use a dark color, it will show up more and ruin the illusion.
Rule Of Three
Not sure if you’ve chosen too many options? Or is one choice just too boring?
There’s really no limit, but typically three types of tiles are a good place to stop. Picking a style that ages well is also a must.
Think of all the bright orange, heavily-tiled bathrooms that existed in the 60s. Save yourself the future hassle and pick something that isn’t too risqué.
Have Some Fun
If you are lucky enough to decorate your home, then try and give every room a different feel. You want your bathroom to have a different vibe to your kitchen.
An easy way to do that is through color! A darker bathroom works well if it will be shared by the entire family as it won’t show up all the bumps and scratches.
Alternatively, if that isn’t a concern, why not treat yourself to a beautiful feature wall? It will make you feel special every time you enter the bathroom and will show off your creative flair.
